HKS Intercoolers
Intercoolers provide a means of improving
both the power and reliability of any turbocharged engine. The intercooler
acts as a large heat exchanger that removes heat from the intake charge
air and dissipates it into the atmosphere. Due to the nature of turbochargers,
air forced through them is heated as it is compressed by the turbo compressor
wheel. Because excessive heat reduces the density of inlet air (reducing
the amount of power possible and increasing the tendency for detonation),
it is important to reduce inlet temperature as much as possible.
HKS intercooler systems are designed to rapidly and consistently draw heat
away from the intake charge by passing it through what is best described
as a "radiator" for air. This produces power gains throughout the
powerband and reduces thermal stress in turbocharged engines. All
HKS Intercooler systems and upgrades utilise tube and fin intercooler cores,
as well as mandrel bent intake pipes, silicone joint hoses and all necessary
brackets and hardware (as applicable). All HKS intercooler systems
and upgrades are street legal for factory turbocharged vehicles.
HKS GT Intercoolers
HKS has developed the GT Intercooler to
provide maximum cooling and to prevent pressure loss. The GT Intercooler
utilises a large dimension, bar and plate core for improved air flow.
This type of core is often used for race vehicles, and allows more space
for air flow which amplifies the cooling effect. Also, as air resistance
inside the pipe is reduced, there is less of a chance for loss of pressure.
All piping is polished, which complements and engine compartment.
